Language and Cultural Matters for those with Disability
If you have Support Workers you need to know that they understand what you are saying and that you understand them – it’s obvious, right?
Support Workers must respect your cultural and personal values too and show respect for them – also obvious?
Our research shows one of the biggest issues people from diverse cultural backgrounds have, is the Support Worker’s lack of understanding of communication made to them (and made from them to people they are supposed to be supporting) and lack of respect for cultural sensitivities.
