Today is R U OK? Day — a national reminder that a simple question can change a life.
This year’s theme is clear: Ask R U OK? Any Day, because life happens every day.
Thursday 11 September is R U OK? Day, but the truth is our friends, family, colleagues, and communities go through life’s ups and downs all year round. That’s why it’s important to feel confident in checking in — not just today, but any day someone might need support.
Research shows that when people are regularly asked “Are you OK?” they report stronger feelings of wellbeing. In fact, one-third of Australians say they’ve been asking others more often over the past year. And while some of us may feel a little hesitant about starting the conversation, nine in ten people say they feel grateful, supported, and cared for when someone genuinely checks in.
At I-Help Disability Services, we know the difference a simple, caring conversation can make. Whether it’s a participant, a colleague, a family member, or a friend — asking “Are you OK?” and truly listening can open the door to connection and support.
f you’re not sure how to start the conversation, use these 4️⃣ steps.
1️⃣ Ask R U OK?
2️⃣ Listen
3️⃣ Encourage action
4️⃣ Check in
Remember: Ask R U OK? Any Day of the year, because a conversation could change a life.
