At I Help Disability Services (iHDS), community participation is about more than just a fun day out. It is about creating opportunities for growth, connection, and independence.
When Bill visited Altona Beach with one of our support workers, he was not just enjoying the sunshine and fresh sea breeze. This outing was part of his NDIS funded community participation goals, designed to help him build confidence, strengthen social connections, and enjoy greater independence in his everyday life.
For many NDIS participants, having goals in their plan related to getting out of the house, becoming more social, or accessing the community means that activities such as going to the beach, attending a local event, or joining a hobby group can all be supported under Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation. With the companionship of a support worker, participants can safely enjoy outings while achieving their NDIS goals in a way that is both meaningful and empowering.
Whether support is provided one on one or in a group, iHDS ensures every experience is safe, positive, and tailored to individual needs. Supports must be reasonable and necessary, based on each participant’s disability related needs and goals. Where needed, participants may also request a plan review to include these supports.

Social and Recreational Activities – From beach outings and dining out to attending local events or visiting community venues.
Skill Development – Building social skills, communication, and confidence using public transport.
Cultural and Community Engagement – Encouraging participation in local festivals, cultural activities, or group programs.
Transport Assistance – Ensuring safe and reliable access to appointments, social activities, and community events.
