How are Support Coordinators different from Local Area Coordinators?

Two key roles within the NDIS are Local Area Coordinators (LACs) and Support Coordinators.

LACs assist participants in understanding their goals and preparing for their NDIS plans. They connect participants with community services, boost their skills and confidence in using the NDIS, and advocate for the NDIS in the community.

Support Coordinators help participants implement their approved NDIS plans, connect them with service providers, promote independence, address crises for complex needs, and collaborate with various stakeholders.

LACs facilitate participants’ entry into the NDIS and plan shaping, while Support Coordinators assist in navigating and leveraging approved plans, particularly for those with advanced needs. Together, they form a vital support system within the NDIS, ensuring individuals with disabilities receive comprehensive assistance to thrive.
