Step 1: Talk to your current NDIS service provider
Is there a lack of communication or do support workers not arrive on time? It is important to talk to your service provider, as they may not know that anything is wrong. It is important to talk to your service provider as well as family and friends about your concerns and about your situation. It could be that the service provider hasn’t done anything wrong and that by switching providers, the same issues will arise. It could also mean that your NDIS plan may need altering to better suit your needs.
Step 2: Look over your service agreement
Registered NDIS providers all have an agreement with terms and conditions regarding any termination periods that exist and how much notice must be given before cancelling the agreement or if any early cancelling fees apply.
Step 3: End the current service agreement
Officially ending a service agreement with a provider is recommended to be done via email as to have everything in writing, which is evidence detailing all your wishes. The provider’s response will be in writing which is also evidence that they acknowledge your request. A Support Coordinator would be able to assist in including all the right details for this type of email.
Step 4: End your service booking on the MyPlace portal
The last step of ending the current service agreement is through the MyPlace portal, where you will need to get in touch with your services provider as you are currently booked with them on the MyPlace portal. Your current services provider will be able to end the booking for you, which will take a minimum of 14 days to be effective, which they will be able to claim any outstanding payments.
Step 5: Find your new NDIS service provider
There are many ways to find NDIS service providers such as through directories, referrals, and social media. It is recommended to only decide on NDIS registered providers, as they will follow the NDIS rules and regulations.
Step 6: Have a chat to the new NDIS service provider before entering a new agreement
Once you have some NDIS service providers that are being considered, it is recommended that you have a chat with them on the phone about your needs, goals, ways you manage your plan, the support you need with your plan, costs and details of services, and your entitlements.
