The Importance of Personal Care
Providing personal care goes beyond daily tasks—it’s about building trust, ensuring comfort, and enhancing confidence. High-quality, compassionate support allows individuals to focus on the things that matter most in their lives.
Key Considerations for Personal Care Providers
- Respect & Trust: Personal care is an intimate service that requires a strong, professional relationship with participants.
- Physical Support: Some tasks require hands-on assistance, such as mobility aid and hoist transfers.
- Pathway to Career Growth: Personal care work can lead to specialized roles in disability and health support services.
NDIA and Personal Care Support
Before funding personal care services, the NDIA evaluates:
- How support enhances the participant’s independence and daily skills.
- Whether supports are age-appropriate and suitable.
- Whether assistive technology or skill-building programs could be alternative solutions.
For participants requiring more intensive support, the NDIA considers:
- High care needs, including seizure management or respiratory support.
- Physical requirements, such as weight and mobility concerns.
- Temporary needs, such as support while waiting for home modifications.
- Additional behavioral support needs.
NDIS Funding for Personal Care
Personal care is part of the core supports budget in NDIS plans, categorized under Assistance with Daily Life in the myplace portal. This funding ensures participants receive essential daily support while maintaining their independence.
