World Braille Day 2023 | Raising Awareness and Highlighting its importance

Today we’re raising awareness for Braille and highlighting its importance.

Braille is a tactile alphabet for the visually impaired to read books, signage, door signs, medications, documents etc. It works by having combinations of raised bumps which represent letters, numbers, and symbols.

Braille is not extensively being taught in schools across Australia, and resources in Braille for students are limited. Over the years, people have expected technology to render Braille unimportant, however it remains very useful.

Learning Braille along with the audio helps a great deal with literacy for visually impaired individuals by reinforcing spelling, grammar, and syntax.

We want to spread awareness for Braille so schools, workplaces and public spaces can be more inclusive and accommodating for visually impaired individuals.
